I first began silversmithing as a camper at Camp Wohelo on Sebago Lake in 1993. For Christmas in 1996 I received my first tools – saw, hammers, buffing machine, and a blowtorch! I continued exploring silvercraft through summers at Wohelo, and on my own during the school year. After moving to Carrabassett Valley in my twenties, I decided it was time to implement my backup plan for employment and officially started Carrabassett Valley Jewelry in 2006. Teaching swimming in the summer and skiing in the winter, cobbled together with some waitressing, just wasn’t quite cutting it.
I continually find my inspiration from being active out-doors. Some of my best selling designs are from my first year in business, inspired by fresh ski tracks in snow!
Carol’s Country Crafts
Posted by Joy Lynne Foss & filed under .
Carol’s Country Crafts has been doing business in Maine for over 20+ years. The company was founded by Carol who found her sewing talents were appreciated by many. Carol started to wholesale items to local gift shops and sell retail at craft shows. She and the company grew over the years. I am proud to say Carol is my mom and we shared the love for fabric and sewing. Our products been approved to carry the Made In Maine Program Label. I am also proud to continue the tradition of making the quality hand made items for local gift shops and frequent craft shows along with adding an Carol’s Country Crafts to the internet. My Mom inspired me to design new products and keep the quality of the items to a high standard. Mom taught me to sew when I was 12 yrs old. I used to go up to her sewing shop each weekend to help out as she continued to teach me all aspects of the business and a strong work ethic.

Maine Cedar Adirondacks

I use to build lapstrake skiffs from cedar. At the end of the day I always sat on a milk crate while having a beer and admiring my boat. I figured I could do better than a milk crate to sit on so I built my first chair around 40 yrs ago. Friends and neighbors wanted chairs and Maine cedar Adirondacks evolved. I retired from the state after 37yrs of service and proceeds are paying off my daughters collage bills. I have a quality control officer ( my dog Doc ) who tests all furniture before sale.

We are so proud to provide folks from all over the country quality rope products made right here in our beautiful state of Maine! As part of the Maine Made program we are dedicated to support our employees and local communities and look forward to growing our business built on the rocky coast of Maine.
From recycled rope to new rope our Rope Mats are the leading door mat on the market! With the largest selection, fastest delivery time, and a price that can’t be beaten, our mats cover doorsteps and more all over the United States and beyond!
“The Right Mat” is a door mat hand made from recycled lobster fishing three strand ropes. New federal regulations mandate that lobster fisherman can no longer use floating line to connect their traps together, because the northern right whale was becoming entangled in the floating line. The fishermen now have to use sinking line to connect their traps.
The Gulf of Maine Lobster Foundation, a non profit organization receives federal monies to buy the rope back from the fisherman to help with the purchase of the new sinking lines. I became aware of the massive quantity of rope that was going to be available a couple of years ago and thought “there ought to be a market for all that rope”. Over 2 million pounds have been collected to date.

Nature et Luxe, LLC (OYSTER LADY)
Posted by Abigail Carroll & filed under .
After over a decade living in Paris, France, I became an “accidental oyster farmer” back home in Maine, earning me the nickname “Oyster Lady.” Oyster farming is a great workout but it takes a toll on my sensitive skin. Having suffered chronic skin issues ranging from cystic acne, to basle cell carcinoma, to eczema, I wanted to be proactive.
I knew from living in France that the secret to improving my skin was in ingredients found right beneath my workboat! So I tried the leading marine skincare brand. It set me back over $400 and wound up clogging my pores! I wanted the benefits of marine ingredients but I also wanted clean, travel-friendly, and eco-minded products that were effective and compatible with my super sensitive skin. So, with the help some natural skincare gurus, and some local seaweed harvesters, I started making products myself.
