Overview

I am an artist and designer based in Stonington, Maine, where I founded Modernmaine in 2011. My background and practice have developed through years of designing, making, and experimenting with materials, with a particular focus on wood veneer and its structural and translucent qualities. My work moves between functional lighting and sculpture, and I am continually interested in developing new techniques while building on a material language I have refined over many years.

I have an MFA from the Rhode Island School of Design and teach occasional workshops at the Center for Furniture Craftsmanship and Haystack Mountain School of Crafts.

Living and working on Deer Isle has also shaped the way I approach making. The landscape is a quiet influence, but more important is the culture of material knowledge and resourcefulness that surrounds me here. I find inspiration in architecture, objects, pattern, structure, and the endless possibilities that emerge through working directly with materials.
