Overview
Sophie’s Soaps at Mini-Hooves Farm, is a small, Handmade, Homemade, woman owned and operated, Goat Milk Soap business in Limington, ME.
I grew up on a small, family farm in Salisbury, Vermont. We had donkeys, ponies, sheep, chickens, geese, and Toggenburg goats. I always enjoyed the goats, but never liked drinking goat milk. But I loved watching the baby goats “short circuit” as they raced around playing. And when you grow up on a farm, it kind of gets in your blood. So, after moving to Limington, we, of course, started a farm.
We decided to try the milk from our Nigerian Dwarf goats, and it came as such a surprise when we drank it. Lovely, sweet, goat milk! And so, so much milk! With so much milk I decided to take a soap making class. Thus my love of soap making was born. Since 2016, after taking my first soap making class, I have watched hundreds of videos and tutorials on soap making and soap making techniques. My soap journey continues as everytime I make a batch of soap I strive for an even better bar of soap. Now I make thousands of bars of soap a year, but with all the soap making I take time to watch my animals, and tend my gardens and walk in the woods. A lot of my inspiration for my soaps comes from the farm itself.
My soap making adventures have become a journey into many different aspects of the personal care world. My most recent endevours over the past couple of years has been harvesting wild things that are natural to health care and infusing them in oils. I use those infusions in lotions, salves, deoderants, lips balms, and the goat milk soaps.
