Overview

Jessie’s art is very rooted in place. She wants to celebrate the landscape she lives in, and not only the vast mountain views but the lovely small moments you find in a sunlit creek, a forgotten marsh, or a soft patch of moss. Everyone should have the opportunity to appreciate where they live, and Jessie hopes her art can help people notice beauty in their everyday lives.

A self-taught artist, Jessie began her journey seven years ago while earning a degree in Biology at Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada. During a natural history lecture she discovered the art of Tom Thomson and decided to venture to the source of his inspiration in Northern Ontario with the acrylic paints in hand, hoping to follow in his tradition. Since then, she has explored oils, watercolors, block printing, and most recently, gouache. Jessie’s sources of inspiration are always the landscapes she inhabits, whether the rocky shores of Midcoast Maine or the boggy woodlands of Eastern Canada. She finds it meditative to get lost in the shapes, shadows, and colors of a landscape, and loves to bring those elements into her artwork.

Curiosity drives Jessie both in art and in life. Outside of her artistic pursuits, she is a passionate naturalist, amateur geologist, and outdoorswoman, often found deep in the woods or on high mountain peaks. She also loves to read, write, photograph, and share her love for nature with the world.
