Overview

I hold a BFA from Penn State’s College of Art and Architecture. While at Penn State and in the few years following graduation, I had the privilege of studying under many tremendously generous mentors in sculpture (Rob Fisher), glass art (James Watkins, Liz Pannell, Steve Easton), and ceramics (Chris Staley, Liz Quackenbush, John Smith). Their guidance shaped not only my technical foundation, and business model, but also the way I think about material, form, and the relationship between beauty and function.

In 2011, my family and I opened Mad Dog Artist Studios and Gallery in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, a vibrant multi-media workspace, gallery, and event space that became home to more than 50 independent artists. Curating quarterly gallery exhibits, running numerous annual sales events, and managing the everyday needs of a multi media studio gifted me with a wide exposure of mediums, styles, personalities, and considerations that are behind our eclectic world of handmade art and wares, as well as the consumers of our products. After ten wonderful years of owning and operating Mad Dog, that creative community continues today, though we passed ownership on to the next generation.

I now work from my small studio in Rockport, Maine, surrounded by nature and sharing my passion with both customers and students ranging in age from 9 to 85. In this quieter setting, I am able to focus deeply on what I love most: creating functional art with careful attention to balance—both in weight and in the relationship between grace and durability.

Much of my inspiration comes through direct interaction with the people who use my work. I listen closely to how customers use specific pieces, which features they value most, and what they wish existed in the objects they use every day. From those conversations, each piece takes shape. That process allows me not only to refine the form and function of each item, but also to build lasting relationships through the shared journey of making.

For my regular studio inventory, I choose forms and glaze patterns that reflect what I most value in daily-use pottery. First and foremost, every piece should feel good in the hand and be satisfying to use. The glaze patterns are inspired by and pay homage to the beauty Maine offers me each day. Just as importantly, my work is made for real life: every item is dishwasher-, oven-, and microwave-safe.

I also believe handmade pottery should be accessible to everyday life, so I offer work across a range of price points—from beautiful, reliable, affordable tableware, to mid-range pieces featuring hand-drawn, hand-painted, and hand-carved details, to larger luxury works such as vases, pitchers, bowls, and custom commissions.
