Overview
Maine has always felt like home to me, not just as a place, but as a way of life. Born and raised here, I’ve always been drawn to the simple things: time spent at the cottage, working in the garden, wandering through the woods, gathering around the kitchen, celebrating the changing seasons, and making memories with the people I love.
After spending much of my professional life in a very different world, I found myself wanting a creative outlet, something I could make with my own hands and truly call my own. Soapmaking gave me that. What began as curiosity quickly became something I genuinely loved. There was something incredibly rewarding about starting with simple ingredients and an idea and creating something beautiful, useful, and completely unique.
Brookside Cottage grew from that creative spark, but it also became a reflection of me. I love creating things that have personality. I’m nostalgic, I have a sense of humor, and I’m constantly inspired by the people, places, traditions, and everyday moments around me. Some of my best ideas have come from a memory, a family member, something growing in the garden, a familiar smell from the kitchen, or simply a moment that made me smile.
I also discovered how much I enjoy sharing what I create with other people. There is something special about meeting someone at a market, hearing the story a particular scent brings back for them, or seeing them laugh at the name of something I’ve made. Those interactions have become one of my favorite parts of this journey.
Brookside Cottage has allowed me to slow down, be creative, work with my hands, and build something that feels authentically mine. I’m proud to create here in Maine, surrounded by so much of what inspires me.
At this point in my life, I’ve learned that success doesn’t always have to mean doing something bigger. Sometimes it means doing something you love, doing it well, and putting a little bit of yourself into everything you create.
That is what Brookside Cottage means to me.
