Tartans of Maine is proud to be a licensed manufacturer of fine Authentic Maine Tartan© products. Each of our made-in-Maine neckties, scarves, tote bags and other select items is hand made, one at a time, in the workrooms of our Canaan country cottage especially for a discriminating clientele with Maine connections or affections.

Tartans of Maine came into being when friends looked for a way to express their deep Maine roots and strong Celtic pride at their wedding. Although a piper was definitely in order, they felt that kilts were a bit too flamboyant for their tastes. Neckties for the men done in Maine State Tartan© seemed to fill the need nicely but, interestingly, none were available commercially. Not to be deterred, we obtained Maine State Tartan© fabric from the supplier and fashioned them ourselves. These ties were so well received that we were encouraged to offer them for sale. We negotiated a license to produce them commercially.
Our first sales were via word of mouth and brisk enough to lead us to open our on-line store to help spread the news.
We now have friends wearing Tartans of Maine authentic Maine Tartan© neckties and scarves across the United States, in England and in Scotland. With our ever expanding but always carefully handmade product line, we look forward to adding you to our Tartans of Maine family.
