Canola Oil. Member Profile:
Morrill Natural Oils (also known as Maine Natural Oils) is co-owned by Mal Morrill & Doug Callnan, friends since 1973 where they met in college. Morrill Natural Oils uses canola seed grown from crops on family farms in Aroostook County, the Crown of Maine. There are over 4,000 acres of canola grown each year in the State of Maine. Some potato farmers have found that alternately growing canola not only puts nutrients back into the soil for their potato crop it also has value. We buy the canola seed from Maine farmers and then cold press this oil rich seed into canola oil.
We do not refine or bleach our canola oil so that we can produce high quality oil retaining its all natural aromatics and full flavor. When you process (refine and bleach) oil in this manner, you can lose the beneficial fats, like Omega fats that are good for your health. Customers use this “All Natural Maine Grown Product” for cooking, sautéing, marinating and frying. Our product has a smoke temperature of 425 degrees, which makes it ideal for frying and grilling. The all natural flavor makes it great for cooking and marinating.
We sell the remaining canola product, referred as to “meal” as animal feed. This “meal” is high in protein. It has a protein level of 37% which animal owners like to blend with other grains to produce a high protein, great tasting feed. Another benefit to our canola meal is that it gives animals a beautiful shiny, healthy coat.
